2007 Season
To All Parents:
We are excited about our second season for Stephenville wrestling. We have had a tremendous turn-out, with a great group of kids and supportive parents. We encourage the kids to tell their friends about wrestling. The more practice partners each athlete has, the better. Wrestling is a great sport that teaches the value of hard work and dedication. The lessons learned on the mat will last a lifetime and apply to all aspects of life. Almost anyone who works hard at wrestling and stays committed can excel, because each competitor is matched against a person their own age and weight. Our first tournament is coming up soon. It will be Oak Cliff on Saturday, November 17th. This is a Rookie/Novice tournament for 1 st and 2 nd year wrestlers only. Medals will be awarded for 1 st through 4 th place in each weight class. We will weigh in here on Thursday, November 15th and will email entries to Texas USA. You must be at practice on Thursday to enter the tournament. Please attend the tournament, if at all possible. The kids have been working really hard and the tournaments are the most fun part of wrestling. This will give them an opportunity to compete against kids from other teams and possibly win a medal. Headgear is required at the tournament. If you don’t have headgear, yet, we will have some you can borrow. Wrestling shoes, while not mandatory, are recommended. We have catalogs that you can order shoes and headgear from. If you have any questions about selections, please talk to Beau or Laura.
Northcutt and Johnson Law Office has graciously agreed to donate the team warm-ups again this season. Uniforms and warm-ups are limited and will be issued to those entering tournaments. Higginbotham’s Lumber Company is donating the team t-shirts. Everyone who pays the membership fee will receive a team t-shirt. We are still seeking a sponsor for uniforms (singlets). They have already been ordered and will hopefully arrive before this weekend’s tournament. If they aren’t in on time, and you don’t already have a singlet from last year, you can compete in shorts and a t-shirt. We also have t-shirts and caps available for any parents and supporters who wish to purchase them. All proceeds go back to the wrestling club.
To encourage tournament participation, any athlete who participates in 4 tournaments before Cotton Bowl (December 28 & 29) will receive a custom Stephenville Youth Wrestling gear bag with their name on it.
We have several new coaches this season. We appreciate the time they are donating. All of our coaches have other obligations (jobs, school and families) and don’t receive any pay for the time and effort they give to our kids.
